One of the many webcomics I read is PHD Comics by Jorge Cham. Billed as “a grad student comic strip”, it puts a humorous spin on the trials and tribulations of the life of grad students. While I may not be a grad student, my wife and brother are, as well as a number of the people I know.
Well, at 4:30 PM on April 10th, Jorge Cham will be at BGSU to give a lecture. It’s even on the calendar of public events at BGSU. I plan on going, as it should be an interesting lecture. I don’t think I can get any of the books he has ordered in time for the lecture/signing, so hopefully I’ll be able to pick one up there.
A number of sites online have done tributes to Gygax, and here’s a couple of them. Also, due to size limitations, just click on the image to see the full size image.
Order of the Stick is a webcomic about a adventuring group of, well, stick figures, and is based heavily on D&D. Comic #536 was a tribute to Gygax, and it’s ironic that the main hero of the story is in the afterlife at this point.
Penny Arcade of course is mainly about video games, but they do reference table-top gaming quite frequently. Their tribute was a very simple piece.
Full Frontal Nerdity is practically all about table-top gaming. The FFN tribute was a bit more humorous, but was still tasteful.
Then there’s the comic that is full of dark humor, Something Positive. A handful of the characters have gaming as a part of their background. I’m sure that the character’s (Mike) reaction shown here is similar to many a fanboy after hearing the news.
So that’s all for now. A coupleofother comics I read just haven’t put up anything yet, but I expect they will, as they are also influenced but Gygax’s work.
Since my brother mentioned it on my Facebook, here’s a picture of Al Gore and his Time Rangers, which Gygax was a part of.
On Friday I finally received my two posters from xkcd.
Respectively, they are posters of thesetwo comics. I’m debating if either of them will be placed in my office when we finally move out of Saddlemire and into Conklin. Since I already have a color copy of the Map of the Internet at work, the Online Communities may get the honor. Then again, that’s if I have room.
I found Last Place Comics a couple months ago, and just find the comics, when updated, to be greatly amusing. Following “300″, and everyone using that quote “Spartans….hell!”, he made the following comic:
And I’ll end this post with a Dr. Mario reference.
That’s right, Stargate is back on tonight. In fact, the wife and I went out last night for dinner and then groceries so we wouldn’t have to go out tonight and could stay in. I’m tempted to install LotRO on my laptop so I can ply LotRO while watching SG, but I may have to forgo LotRO entirely.
For the last week or so, Drew from toothpaste for dinner has been putting up videos of he, his wife, and his dogs on YouTube. Once you watch some of them, it’s plain to see why his comics are so random and hilarious. I particularly like his interview with his dog. His wife also has her own videos, which have their own style of humor, but are still great to watch.
These two might actually cause me to watch YouTube on a regular basis. I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing.

Here’s a list of webcomics I read. This lists is pulled from my del.icio.us account using the linkrolls script they have at del.icio.us. The “Link” tab, which use to use a drupal module that I have had issues with for quite some time, that used to be at the top has been replaced with a “Webcomics” tab, and the only way to view my links is to visit my del.icio.is page at http://del.icio.us/SeanEtCetera.
